Garcia Jr. himself. The Taebo instructor is Mr. Rene Solidum Agustin, a Physical Education teacher of Ibajay Central School. The activity is a “bang” among the employees because they did not only shed their unwanted fats but they also felt ten years younger. NGO’s and other organizations were invited to join the exercise as well as the barangay officials. Solidum Park, which is the venue, is now bubbling with life every Monday and Friday afternnons. Join na!
PLAYGROUND FOR CHILDREN The IBAJAYNON-USA (Southern California) donated a playground for Barangay Capilijan, Ibajay, Aklan, Philippines through the efforts of their Barangay Captain, Honorable Diva S. BUWAN NG WIKA The fervor of patriotism runs deep in the blood of Ibajaynons. We see it in the annual celebration of the “Buwan ng Wika” every August, of which public and private schools alike participate. To mention a few, Ibajay Central School teachers and pupils paraded around the poblacion wearing native costumes with posters and placards depicting the theme of celebration.
The coronation of Lakan and Lakambini ng Wikang Pambansa was a success. Lakan ng Wika was John Renz C. Rafuson, the grandson of Mrs. Juanita Gelito Teodosio whili the Lakambini ng Wika was Ma. Frea Sharine Maglantay Igtanloc, the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Edwin Briones Igtanloc. The coronation speaker was Criselda C. Quintana, PH. D. from Aklan State University, Banga Campus. Worthy to be remembered too was Ibajay Academy’s unique presentation as their Lakan and Lakambini riding on a wooden sleigh was being drawn by a carabao; first time in the history of the celebration of the Buwan ng Wika. This idea came from the creative mind of Mrs. Teresita Inog Sastre, Principal of Ibajay Academy. Anong say nyo?

YAWA – YAWA Nowhere in Ibajay is Yawa-Yawa or the NINOS INOCENTES is celebrated but only in barangays Capilijan and Maloco on every 28th of December. In the bible, King Herod ordered the mass killing of children aged 2 years old and below to insure the death of the baby Jesus. The Yawa-Yawa is composed of men personifying the soldiers of King Herod. They are armed with “karit” or ax, dressed in red and black clothes with mask made of “gunot.” These masked men chase the very young and may even enter houses to look for children. To redeem the child, a ganta of palay or any cash is accepted.
