The Taste Of Home

As far as the eyes can see from the Colsa beach in Aslum, Ilawod, the Pantalan in Colong-colong to the shores of San Isidro, Naisud and Bugtong-bato, one will feast on its natural beauty and with awe be inspired by the calmness of the blue sea, a sky partially painted with multiformed white ornaments and a long stretch of coconut trees lining the shore in green. Just a mere glance is worth a thousand euro.

Meanwhile the Ibajay river which at times roar in anger as huge volume of water makes an exit to the open sea, is the source of the living water which nourishes the fields where rice mostly thrives. The areas of Laguinbanwa, Bagacay, Unat, Agdugayan, Capilijan, Maloco, Santa Cruz, Agbago, Tagbaya, Ondoy, Aquino, etc. benefit from nature’s bounty with an extra boost from modern technology.

Fresh fish abounds depending on the direction of the wind and the rotation of the moon around the earth. Commercial boats and small fishing boats unload boxes of fish and sometimes the catch are sold to neighboring towns. To save for the rainy days, large portions are seasoned with salt and later dried directly under the soaring heat of the sun. Crabs, shrimps including sugpo, tilapia and bangus are harvested and sold in bulks.
