Do you have any information about a Reginald F. Smith. He was a teacher from America who was assigned to Ibajay in 1902, one of the Thomasites.
He is my great-grandfather and we have very little information about his time there. While he was there he met my great grandmother, Romana Calizo with whom he had two daughters. Maria Smith (-Dorado) and Pura Smith (-Diaz.).
Any information or direction would be so helpful.
Thank you, Frederick Dorado

Willie Macawillie [Willie@dixonhardchrome.com]:

First hand, I was born in Naile and in spite of my long absence in search of higher education and a better place in the sun, I am still a true Ibajaynon. I made a short visit to our beloved hometown a year ago after 25 years and I have a plan to be back soon. A lot of people I knew passed on and as many moved to other places in search of greener pastures. At first, I feel like a stranger in a familiar landscape but the feeling of feeling good to be home again feels like no other. I of course made quick jump to Boracay, my usual haunt in my younger days. The trip to Bugtongbato beach and mangrove park was invigorating and eye-opening. Shopping at the Ibajay Public Market was more exciting than shopping here in Los Angeles. The walks around my farm and those in the neighboring barangays was so refreshing. Ibajay Valley and the surrounding hills may not be of world caliber tourist stop wise but it is a beauty of its own-and it has tourism potential. I had casual talk with some foreign tourists at NAIA and in Boracay. Many outsiders would like to experience rural life first hand. Some were eager to explore the hinterlands of Ibajay but they don’t know how: where to start, where to go, where to stay, etc…
I noticed that there are no available accommodations near the mangrove park and nearby beach areas. I suggest the tourism council to look into encouraging local people engage in bed and breakfast establishments: that is, using their homes to accommodate tourists for profit. The council should oversee and issue accreditation standard, train people how to deal with foreign visitors. Students from the local college and high schools can trained as tour guides during off school days. Aside from beach areas, hiking trails and other spots should be made known and made safe.

Thank you for the opportunity to write and share this sad story of mine.I hope you will publish this.

Last May 31, 2011 my nephew together with my brother went to Aklan State University (ASU), Ibajay to enroll as transferee. After a series of interviews, evaluation and undergoing medical examination he was told (in an arrogant manner) by a lady head of HRM department not to enroll unless he can show his transcript of record. My nephew presented final grading report instead so he can enroll temporarily as per advise by the previous university he attended and told the lady officer that request for issuance of school credentials has been made and were just waiting for the schedule of release since my nephew took his first year college in a private university in Metro, Manila, however, the lady officer insist not to admit him. Hence, it makes me sad as a guardian and a regular tax payer of this country for more than 17 years learning that a government institution denied access to education. This showed discrimination and misconduct by the very institution tasked to inform and educate Pilipino people. A simple case of deprivation of the right to education that my nephew deserves being a Pilipino people and as prescribed under article XIV section 1 of the 1987 constitution of the Republic of the Philippines and section 1 of article III of the bill of rights. In short, my nephew failed to go to college this semester but hopefully he'll make it again in the coming second semester in other private college institution.
I share this unfortunate experience of us to enlighten the Ibajaynons that there is indeed discrimination and that we have to fight for our basic right as a citizen of the republic. I also appeal to the administrator of ASU to please take a look on this issue because SUC as an institution is subsidized by the Philippine government thru a tax payer's money. The Ibajaynons deserves a highest form of education so please be considerate. Let us not denied access and deprived the right of every Ibajaynon's to education ."Sila ang mga natatanging pag asa ng banwang Ibajay at ng bawat pamilyang Ibajaynon".
Maraming salamat mister WebMaster. Morepower at mabuhay po kayo.

Dear Webmaster:
I would like to express my big thank you for posting this story.
This poor and helpless family can't stay in their homestead, they accepted the 40,000 for that piece of land because our Aunties denying the sale/purchase of the land and their demand for the family to move out by SEPTEMBER. There will be no home for them to go. The new land in the same place where they are about to purchase for 50,000 has been DELAYED (the owner had a stroke and resides in Manila). I have been asking for help to all especially our officials in Ibajay. It seems like no one is letting them know what is going on to this family. We know that this is only a small piece of land and a nipa house and not worth arguing over, but when looking at the safety of this poor family, this is really unfair.
We need your help, please!

My Name is Marivel s. Villorente. I have worked and lived in Ibajay for almost 23 years this August 2010. and Since then, I have not doubted a second not to love Ibajay and its people. Ibajaynons are one of the COOLEST people I know on earth. They're really cool, cool people..happy..simple and humble..if ever you find one who is braggist or with harsh voice..more often than not..not a true blood ibajaynon.
Godbless Ibajay.com and the people behind it. I just wonder what happened to the page where we could see our News. Like I would like to report that Aklan State University at Ibajay has produced its first BS in Tourism graduates last April 2010..they were well-crafted..since they were almost half of those who first enrolled in the course. Next year will follow our first graduates in Computer Science to be followed the following year by first batch of graduates in BS in Environmental Science. Mabuhay the Aklan State University at Ibajay..with enrollment this year at 1576..whew! a big number considering our limited classrooms and laboratory facilities. It's like the harvest are good but the workers are few.

Marivel,
We appreciate your contribution.
Please provide us with more detail news about Aklan State University and its programs. We will gladly publish it under your name in our Local News & Current Events page.

While the effort of the Ibajay Emergency Hospital's officer in charge to uplift its present condition is commendable, perhaps there should be full accounting of the doations given in the past. Also, how much is it getting from the national government? Di ba mabigyan to ng pork barrel ni congressman?

[Methusellah35@yahoo.com]:

I am just wondering why our hospital is not taken care of where in fact the congressman is from our own hometown. He can put just half or a quarter of his pork barrel to repair and make our hospital well-equipped and state of the art medical facility.

MARY JEAN A. GELITO, M.D. [gelitomd@yahoo.com]

Republic of the Philippines
Province of Aklan
IBAJAY DISTRICT HOSPITAL
Philhealth Accredited

To All Ibayhanons:

Greetings of Love and Peace!

I am Dr. Mary Jean Alag-Gelito, Officer-in-Charge of Ibajay District Hospital. I am writing to you in behalf of Ibajay District Hospital and as an Ibayhanon who would like to see progress and development in our hometown Ibajay. As you may notice in your visit to Aklan, the physical structures of Ibajay District Hospital is dilapidated and needs major repair. The building has been around for more than 30 years and being a government hospital with meager budget the repair was long overdue.

Our roofs were all rusty and some were dripping during heavy rains with some of the gutters falling especially after the devastation of Typhoon Frank last 2008. Some of the ceilings were also about to fall down posing danger to the hospital clients. Some walls were infested by termites and need to be replaced. The beds and mattress were old and worn out, too. In short, the Ibajay District Hospital needs a total make-over.

We have started on this make-over on some areas in the hospital through the help of benevolent private individuals, Ibayhanon and Aklanon associations abroad. With their support, we were able to renovate the following rooms: Casa Prima Room by Ms. Carmelina Tumbokon, Casa Razon Room by Atty. Mauino Haresco, St. Claire Room by Architect Jose & Dr. Leodith Sallador, Private A Room by Ibayhanon of Eastern USA, Villa Florencia Room by Mrs. Florencia “Dading” Solano, Isolation Ward by Mrs. Marlyn Tumbokon, and Pediatrics Ward by the Aklanon Sto. Niňo Association of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.

However, there are still much to be done. We are waiting for the repair of our roofs and ceilings as promised by Governor Carlito S. Marquez and the construction of the two-storey building as pledged by Congressman Joeben T. Miraflores through the assistance from the Department of Health and foreign donors.

Currently, we are also working for the upgrading of the hospital from primary (Level I) to secondary (Level II) so that we can do surgical operations here and deliver better quality health services to all Aklanons. We are hoping to expand from a 25-bed to 50-bed capacity hospital in 5 years time.

We are continuously working to improve the quality of health services. At present, the Ibajay District Hospital has 9 doctors – 1 OB-Gyne Specialist, 1 Anesthesiologist, 1 Internist, 1 Family Medicine Specialist, and 5 General Practitioners. Last year, the Ibajay District Hospital, through the Provincial Government and the Economic Enterprise Development Department (EEDD) Unit was able to hire visiting consultants in the field of Surgery and Anesthesiology. From July to December 2009, we were able to do Bilateral Tubal Ligation and Minor Surgeries.

Our laboratory currently has 2 medical technologists. It is open 7 days a week. It is currently under renovation and relocation to a bigger area hopefully by June. Once this is done we will be applying for a Level II Laboratory where in we can do laboratory examinations which is at par with the Level II hospitals in Kalibo.

Our pharmacy currently has 2 licensed pharmacists. Starting April 2010, we will be extending our pharmacy hours from the previous schedule of 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM to 7:00 AM - 11:00 PM daily.

But there’s a lot of improvements that are needed to be done. In this regard, I am knocking on the kind and generous hearts of Ibayhanons here and abroad to extend your help to the Ibajay District Hospital, the Ibayhanons, and the Aklanons. Listed below are the areas in the hospital which needed repair with their estimated costs.

Areas in Ibajay District Hospital that needed repair:
1.Information and Reception Area – P 50,000
2.OB Ward – P 100,000
3.Central Supply Room – P 100,000
4.Surgical Ward – P 100,000
5.Male Medical Ward – P 100,000
6.Female Medical Ward – P 100,000
7.Male Medicare Ward – P 100,000
8.Female Medicare Ward – P 100,000
9.Kitchen – P 50,000
10.Records Room – P 50,000

I am looking forward that you can help us in the repair of some of these areas. Be one of our partners in the advancement of Ibajay District Hospital and the progress of Ibajay.

More power and May the Good Lord bless you and your family.

Very truly yours,

Dear Dr Jean,
My name is Mansueto (Butch) Conanan Jr. of Naisud, Ibajay, Aklan. I really appreciate your effort of getting the attention of all Ibajaynons by posting your letter to Ibajay.com. (Bebot Maglantay, Thank you). Yes, it really needs some improvement to level up the standard of our hospital in Ibajay. I have some concerns though, in addition to your publication on Ibajay.com. On the ten areas that need to be repaired, did somebody already pledge in any of these area. I just want you to know that I am interested to pledge for The Reception and Information Area, if this was not taken yet.
I would like to suggest for a periodic update of your record to be published on Ibajay website also regarding the area that was taken and who gave the donation. I think by doing this, our kasimanwa will be inspired knowing some of our friends, classmate, cousin, and other groups are trying their best to share and help to improve our hospital in Ibajay. (kita man guihapon mga Ibayjanon ro mag binipisyo sa hospital.) Another suggestion is to give payment option, which maybe payable to a month or one year term; and the idea of having a “group donor” for a certain area of their choice. Let’s say a group of friends, cousin or a family can share the amount.

Dra Jean, this is only my suggestion. If ever na hindi mo nagustuhan, just disregard it. My only intension and interest is to see the improvement of Ibajay hospital ag ro mga pamoeoyo.

Good Luck!

Butch Conanan

Boracay under threat
Written by Lito U. Gagni Market Files May 20, 2010/ http://www.businessmirror.com.ph/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=25458:boracay-under-threat&catid=28:opinion&Itemid=64

A growing number of stakeholders in Boracay—considered one of the world’s best beaches because of its unique white sand that does not burn one’s feet even at midday—are worried about plans for an international airport in nearby Caticlan that could sound the death knell to what Boracay is famous for.

Members of the Boracay Foundation, which groups hotels, resorts and other tourism-related firms in the area, are at their wits’ end on how to block the construction of the international airport.

What strikes fear in their hearts are findings that building the international airport would mean leveling the so-called Caticlan Hill. This hill provides not only natural cover to the pristine beaches but induces patterns of wind and current directions that make up the Boracay beach sands. “Leveling of the hill will trigger local hydromet changes on the environment that would eventually lead to the longshore erosion of beaches along Boracay,” according to scientist Dr. Ricarte S. Javelosa.

We understand that opposition to the construction of the Caticlan international airport being planned is mounting by the day as the full impact of the study made by Dr. Javelosa triggers huge concerns: losing the famed beach sands, and the tourism revenues.

The Boracay stakeholders want to pursue the original proposal: the construction of an international airport in Kalibo, Aklan—not in Caticlan. To them, the bottom line should be that there must just be only one international airport in the province and that is the one being planned in Kalibo. By adhering to this plan, there would no longer be any need to level the Caticlan hill. The Boracay stakeholders have adopted the buzzword: Level the hill, Boracay beaches disappear.

Under the microclimate theory advanced by Dr. Javelosa of the Mines and Geosciences bureau, removing the hill that acts ad the climate barrier that drives the replenishment cycle of the unique beach will result in the beaches eventually disappearing as a result of the disturbed microclimate, thereby causing major erosion from the sea and leading to the stoppage of the replenishing of fine and light white sand by the gentle breezes.

Javelosa explains that unlike other beaches which have sand made out of silica, Boracay’s powdery sand comes from finely polished crushed coral eroded from the bedrocks of Caticlan and Boracay. His study revealed that the main drivers for replenishing Boracay’s sandy beaches are the wind and the waves tempered by the hill at the end of Caticlan airport’s runway. The hill, according to him, acts as a barrier against the harsh winds of the habagat and amihan converting these into gentle breezes that swirl around the areas of Caticlan and Boracay while carrying light sand particles that replenish the beaches of its unique white sand.

Aside from this, Javelosa posits that leveling the hill will unleash the full force of the monsoon winds and wreak havoc on Boracay’s so called microclimate. The strong winds will carry even heavier topsoil that will discolor the beach, and will create higher waves that will crush the beach, dragging its unique sand back into the sea. These strong winds will also cause foreign object damage to planes in the airport.

What Dr. Javelosa details are frightening and this is what serves as a unifying force for the Boracay stakeholders opposing the planned international airport of a big conglomerate. Of what use, after all, is an international airport in Caticlan if this would lead to disastrous results. The Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng catastrophes have strengthened the resolve of the Boracay stockholders to bring to the consciousness of the populace the need to oppose the planned international airport.

The disastrous effects of the climate change brought about by the failure of the government to rein in corporate greed have been highlighted by the economic upheavals that were brought by the lack of environmental concern. For starters, the country needs to refocus its efforts on the Boracay environmental challenges, especially those that pose hazards to Boracay’s come-on as a tourism destination. There is so much at stake here and it’s time the government spoke with one voice on environmental concerns.

Perhaps it is time for the incoming administration to zero in on the situation obtaining in Boracay. The famed beach is in danger of losing its tourism driver and all because of a plan to level the Caticlan hill. The Noynoy Aquino administration should level the plan to put up an international airport and instead have the planned airport put up in Kalibo. There is no other way out except to forego the leveling of that hill.

Aklan to have two airports with international standard
http://positivenewsmedia.net/am2/publish/Tourism_24/Aklan_to_have_two_airports_with_int_l_standard.shtml
BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan, April 23 (PNA) - The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has approved the plan of creating two airports with international standard in Aklan to respond to the growing tourism industry in the province.
Aklan Congressman Florencio Miraflores said that the two airports are the Caticlan Airport in Malay, Aklan and the current Kalibo International Airport (KIA).
Earlier, San Miguel Corporation had bought a major stake for the modernization of the Caticlan Airport.
"But as agreed, direct flights coming from different countries will step down in KIA while the Caticlan Airport will only be developed attuned with the international standard," said Miraflores.
These developments, Miraflores said, will enhance the target of the province of achieving a million tourists coming to Boracay in the year 2013. (PNA) scs/PTR/JNA

The History of Ibajay mentioned Don Ciriaco Tirol y Seneres as Capitan Municipal in 1879. Do you have more info about him and are there any descendants of Don Seneres in Ibajay?
May I know the title of the song played in the \"Ibajay People & Culture\" Section. It\'s played in guitar. May I know the name of the artist also. Thank you.

No more info is available on Capitan Municipal. You can post your request at our forum. Hopefuly, someone will know more about the subject.
The title of the song played in the "Ibajay People & Culture" section is, I believe, free reproduction of Walay Angay by freelance guitarist Charlie MacSaied. Webmaster

I was trying to show my friends and explain them the beauty of the town, but sadly, I couldn't trace it anywhere..or are the pictures just for limited time only?? sometimes when people get nostalgic about certain things, you would like to get back to it, so I wish this site can..thank YOU.

I have always wanted to come back to Ibajay since I last visited when I was 7. I'm just not sure if there are lodging facilities there or if the people we used to visit are still there.

Noel, We either stay in our own homes or relatives' place, if the latter offer to accommodate guests. Last resort is to find an affordable place in Boracay for a night's rest and visit your friends and relatives in Ibajay at daytime.
See the link below. I encourage you to call them or send an email for other information.
Thank you.

http://profiles.friendster.com/leighchairo

hi there... i hope i can pick pieces of me from your site. I am an FM radio DJ in the past and currently working as an admin staffof the same station. Browsing through the net, I discovered this page. I am Leslie Joy Nadong Lampayasen - Simpas, born and raised in Mindanao but I cannot totally neglect where my ancestors came from. My maternal grandmother is a daughter of Ibajay, Aklan, her name is Mercedes Maquirang Montero. They call my maternal greatgrandmother "Diday" and she hails from theMaquirang clan, and my maternal greatgrandfather "Hilario" who belongs to the Montero family. They migrated as a family to Mlang, Cotabato in Mindanao when my grandmother Mercedes was already married. My mother and my aunts knew how to speak Aklanon but not me. I am a mixture of different ethnic genes and was so close to my mother's paternal family who also hails from Dao, Anini-y, Antique. I don't know if there's still people up there who knew my greatgrandparents but I hope I can still trace my roots and I hope to know some people with the family names I mentioned earlier. Not for any reason, though, but to see how my maternal relatives look like. I hope this site can help me. One of my greatest dreams is to visit Ibajay, Aklan.if i got some relatives there heheheu can also contact me through my other email ljlsimpas@yahoo.com

Leslie,
This is to inform you that we have managed to find some of your relatives in Ibajay:
Jan Michael Camino Maquirang (Cell#: 09104613830)
Anjannette Camino Maquirang (Cell:09093013803)
Anastasio Longlong Maquirang (Barangay Naisud Ibajay Aklan Philippins 5613)

For further help please contact the owner of Ibajay.com, Mr. Cesar Maglantay (cmmaglantay@yahoo.com) who has provided the information.

So Good to open again Ibajay.com. It's becoming very informative and enriching since last I opened it. We missed to see Bebot Maglantay at ASU-Ibajay this year. Hope he can visit again and see the development of ASU-Ibajay.
This year, 2008, ASU-Ibajay has it's Executve Director, Prof. Theodore R. Rowan, and yours truly, Dr. Marivel S. Villorente as the Dean.
This opening school year in June 2008, ASU-Ibajay will offer a new program, that is BS in ENvironmental Science. Hopefully, this course will provide the training of the Western aAklan populace including the neighboring provinces of Antique, Romblon and Mindoro, to be able to support the need of their local government in the protection and preservation of natural resources.

Likewise, the new steel bridge of Ibajyy is on way to be upassable soon.
Congatulations to Ibajay.com. More Power.

I only wish for you guys that you do not spoil a good thing. In the announcement section there is a subtitle for the list down of events it says "Here is the itenaries". Sorry to say but I don't think there is such a word, "itenaries". Why dont you just subtitle it as "Events:" or change it to "Here is the itenerary". It is already the list of events, no need to make it plural form. Thanks.

I am really getting tired of those people making corrections instead of appreciation. This is not an official source of information that every time there is some kind of error, we send a rebuttal to the editor. This is a noble project by a very good Ibajaynon with no cost to you and me except your bill from your internet provider. If you think you can provide a better website then go ahead and make one and we'll see how you feel when you get those of kind of comments from one of us. I love reading positive comments from everyone. Small mistakes here and there is no big deal, in fact it makes me smile. To you Mr. Cesar Miroy Maglantay, Thank You Sir! You are doing a good service to Ibajaynon and to those who visit this website. And to Nong Monoy Blanco, thank you to your Website too Sir. Hi there! My first time to visit the website and though I didn't have much time to really assess the contents (feeling eh no) I found that the ACHIEVERS corner need updating...You know, like include all people hailing from Ibajay who did good in the different fields of endeavor....holding key positions in the government, lawyers and doctors hailing from Ibajay...people na talagang somebody to reckon with na...Also, parang backgrounder on families who are well known...uh, something to do with politics also....am i blabbering?....c",) have a great day and thanx for coming up with somethinglike this....keep it up...cheers!

HOW ARE YOU SIR? MY INTENTIONS OF WRITING TO YOU IS JUST TO ASK A FEW SECONDS OF YOUR TIME.
DO YO KNOW ANY SUMANTING FAMILY IN IBAJAY AKLAN ? I WAS BROWSING THE COMPUTER AND SAW THIS .COM. MY DAD DIED IN '93 AND I KNEW THAT HE HAD 6 SISTERS. I SAW ONE DE LOS REYES HERE ON YOUR PAGE AND I BELIEVE THAT ONE OF HER SISTERS WAS MARRIED TO DE LOS REYES. THERE ARE 5 OR 6 OF THEM AND MY DAD IS THE ONLY BOY. I AM ALREADY 53 YEARS OLD. I WISH THAT THROUGH THIS IBAJAY.COM, AND I HOPE, THAT I AM GOING TO MEET MY RELATIVES.
THE FIRST TIME I WENT TO IBAJAY WAS WHEN MY GRANDMA WAS SICK. I REMEMBERED THAT THE SHIP HAS TO SLOW DOWN GOING IN, IN BETWEEN ISLANDS BEFORE THE SHIP STOPS AT THE END WHERE THE PIER IS. I WAS STILL IN ELEMENTARY. THEN WE RODE A BUS GOING TO MY DAD'S PLACE. THAT'S THE FIRST AND THE LAST TIME I SAW MY GRANDMA. YEARS AGO I SAW ON THE COMPUTER ( BROWSING ) A SUMANTING WHO I BELIEVE IS A BARANGGAY MEMBER.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH SIR AND GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

Maricor Crispino-Singh (singhmaricor@aol.com) Wesley Hills, NY, USA:

was searching for the geneology of both the Crispino and Solidum family to show my children. I ended up with this site. nice to know about Aklan. I am the granddaughter of Estela Solidum-Crispino of Kalibo, Aklan. I grew up in Manila but never had the chance to see Aklan. Lola is back in Manila and I've heard she has visited Aklan a couple of times. Anyone who could help me trcae the roots of both family names, please email me @ singhmaricor@aol.com. My 4 kids will be thrilled to learn more about their Filipino roots.

ronald garcia ( ronrongar@yahoo.com) New York, NY, USA:

We have received from someone (who witnessed events and is knowledgeable with what are happening inside), an unsigned note with the following comment:
As for the fiesta itself, besides the calamity the general area experienced days before the fiesta, the economics and politics are the main reason why there are less participants this year and probably in the future.
The obvious reasons are, for example, in the case the Naile group: For them to enter and be qualified as an ati-ati group, 1) their group must have at least 50 participants, 2) they have to join the street dancing at least once, on the eve of the fiesta - Saturday, 3) and at least once during the D-day itself, 4) plus they are required to join the procession at the end of the day. All 4 conditions must be satisfied or the group will be disqualified. Hence Naile, and other far-away baranggays were not able to participate in this category.
On the expenses point of view, the participating group have to provide their own means of transportation to and from their respective barangays, provide their own food, and/or find place/s to eat/rest during those two days. Don't forget, we're talking of groups with at least 50 participants each!!! No facility to house them, and even the space under the bridge could not be good enough!
As a result under these conditions, this year there were only three entries for the Ati-Ati Group category the Pangpang, Naisud, and Maloco. The ones missing that participated on last year's event on this same category are Naile, Regador, Buenavista, Colongcolong, Bugtongbato, Agdugayan. On Float category, there were quite a few, 'cause they only have to showup twice during the fiesta.
And what will they get in return if they win? They get P30K - First Place - that is, if they win, plus an entry allowance of P3K.
The sad part is: there are supposed to have atotal of 5 winners for the Ati-Ati Group and the Float categories. The total donated prizes for both groups was P150K. Since there were only 3 entries awarded, what happened to the rest of the prize? Well, turned out it went to a catering company, which happened to be owned by a politician. Nilagay pa nila sa receipt.
Prize donors, please take note ... Time will come, there will be no more organize ati-ati. You can keep you prize money, donors. It doesn't save its purpose.

I am submitting some corrections again. Nakikisama lang ako. Its about your announcement on Ibajay Fiesta 2007. One is subtitled here is the itenaries. I am not sure also but I think it should be appropriately said; " HERE IS THE ITENERARY".
Also I have seen there is a list of barrio fiesta and I missed the one Sitio that have their own. In fact it is the one where you featured my niece Angelica Nieva the one time queen of sitio Pangpang. Their Patron saint is San Juan de Bautista celebrated June 24 yearly.

Is there any way you know of that I may be able to get in touch with my family in Ondoy, Ibajay? They are the Silvas, Dalisays, and Bagat families. My lolo was Petronio Colangoy Silva, born Oct 4, 1911 in Ondoy. One of my "honorary uncles" here in Texas is Edilberto Bagat, also originally from near my grandfather's home-town. I am also close to my cousin, Lally Dalisay, who resides in Texas, USA, now... Any other family in the Phil, I would love to write and hopefully someday travel to meet them.My name is Desirée and I would love to get in contact with my family I have not yet met in the Philippines. God Bless, and Happy New Year to ALL!!!Salamat po,Desirée S. Carlos,

Additional correction to our kasimanwa Batch 69 (brightstar@zajil.net) Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In your comment you wrote "the title bar for the Java Scripts ". Javascript(not Java Script) is a scripting language used to make the web page dynamic, like animating a title bar, creating a dynamic menu etc. So it is right to say "the title in the title bar (at the top of your browser) is written in javascript". I don't see any codes in the homepage tried to use the javascript for a title bar. It is in the scrolling-text, date, time and navigation menu javascript is used. Please be careful lang sa mga comments. Good job for all the people who spent time to make this site as informative and usable as possible for the people of Ibajay. Hi to all the ibajaynon, sa mga kasimaryo kung taga Maeoco.

Roger "longlong" Cabales (longlong725@yahoo.com)Auburn , WA, USA:

I love to visit this website. I do, simply because ibajay is so close to my heart. The sweet-bitter memories lingering in my soul and mostly the "first-and-lasting" experiences of growing-up days taught me do something good and noble plans for her.Last June 27th my family and my sisters' (Grace, Babes and Melanie)went home to share to our less-fortunate kasimanwas the blessing God has given us through conducting a medical mission. In that two-day of giving free medical and dental services and free medicine, we learned that the desperate need of our town is a unified hand from us who are working abroad to spearhead the move of providing health care services to our poor and destitiute fellow Ibayhanons. Maabo nga kaeooy idto nga akon guid nga nakita ag bisan pamasahe guinataw-an pa namon makabalik eang sanda. Kon nahimo namon nga ap-at nga magmaeanghod ro hara siguro mas pa ro maabot naton kon kita tanan hay magtibyog sa pagimplementar it mga butang nga aton ikabulig sa aton nga banwa. We planned to do this as a yearly project for our town ourselves, but, I encourage everyone, every single abled Ibayhanon to join us in this God-commissioned endeavor for He expects more to those He blessed more.I would like to thank Gemma Conanan for the big help she extended in the success of the basketball tournament during my vacation there. Thnx Gem! You're a rock! Ha-ha-ha.Lastly, I would like to thank the webmaster for posting this. Thnx Nong Bebot. Ako ro unga ni Pater ag ni Fe Cabales. Batch 69 (brightstar@zajil.net) Jeddah , Saudi Arabia:

Kindly double check the grammar, spelling, names, adn especially the agreement of the verb and the subject. During my time in elementary days, our English Teachers are very good in doing such work, and they make sure that everything is in order before publishing. Makahueuya nga basahon and isaea pa hay owa it editing. Even the title bar for the Java Scripts are aweful. Please, I am an Ibajaynon nad I want the best for Ibajay as what is mentioned in this website.

January 17, 2005 - Tuesday, January 18, 2006 - Wednesday, Margarita Victoria Taploc Santamaria,Heads of Different Agencies, Milagros Solidum Caparas, small lfishes, gaity

The above are just but a few to mention and I do not want to caopy and paste the whole article just to show what I mean.

Thanks to my classmate Mr. Cesar Miroy Maglantay for his untiring effort for this site. Painstakingly, it is worth the hardship, but please folks, next time, hire an editor before submitting for public viewing. Thanks for everything.

The webmaster's Response:

Please notice that you have quite a few mistakes in written English yourself. You have also failed to introduce yourself which is discourteous to say the least.

The articles are written by caring Ibajaynon most of whom are respected community leaders and teachers. The richness one observes in this grass root endeavor is exclusively due to their willingness to participate and contribute.

Instead of complaining, may be you should help.

Please copy/paste pertinent articles in a doc file, make the necessary corrections and email them to me.

Please also notice that this is a one-man operation. I do not have staff and editor. If you are so much in love with Ibajay and you “want the best for” her, you can extend your help financially. I’ll then hire local ibajaynon experts in the field of publishing to make the site more presentable.

Sincerely, Steven Manesh--The Webmaster

Charlie E. Fernando (send2meg3@yahoo.co.jp) Japan:

To Batch 69 (brightstar@zajil.net) Jeddah, Saudi Arabia:
In response to your request, I started checking the spellings of misspelled words, as well as wrong grammar, in your letter.
Spelling: You wrote "adn" and "nad" instead of "and"; "aweful" instead of "awful"; and "caopy" instead of "copy".
Grammar: You wrote: 1)"... the agreement of the verb and the subject..." It should be "... between the verb and ..."
2)"... our English Teachers are very ... and they make sure..." It should be "...teachers were very ... and they made sure ..."
3) "Even the title bar ... are aweful." Itshould be "... title bar ... is awful."
I hope you're satisfied with my work.

On second thought, do we have to do this? I think it's offensive to the writer, don't you think so?

Thank you Mr. Fernando. Let’s acknowledge the fact that this medium is primarily for communication with the sole purpose of getting ibajaynon closer connected together. We are not New York Times or CNN. It is ok if there are imperfections.

Sincerely, Steven Manesh--The Webmaster

i just wanna share a story..i am a colege student in one of the universities here in manila and at the same time an org member of aklanons here in the university. we thought of a project that will help our fellow aklanon. we thought of having a students leadership training. and there's this delegate from Ibajay, a high school student from Ibajay National High school. she related to us the problem of the school. she told us that they are living like sardines in the classroom. if im not mistaken, they are about 60 students in a classroom, that happened bacause of lack of classrooms. they share books, with a ratio of 1 is to 3 or 4 perhaps. hope you could do something about this. as i've observed that student, i know that she is more than willing to learn, but who would want to study in a school with a situation like that? im really hoping that you could help. ibajaynons have great potential pls help

The 75-ha mangrove area in Ibajay is highly diverse, hosting 27 species, among them the magnificent Avicennia rumphiana, locally known as the "api-api" or "bungalon," noted for its fine-grained wood used in furniture-making.

Primavera chose the Ibajay mangroves as research site to save the trees from being cleared by a barangay official. Since then, a mangrove tree house has been built, but her work did not stop the official from building fishponds in the area.

A Paragon of Generosity

We have learned that Mrs. Tejada of Colong-Colong, Ibajay, Aklan received gifts from Ms. Carmen Briones of Canada. We would like to acknowledge Ms. Briones’ kindness for donating valuable gifts to our underprivileged kasimanwas.

Deep in my heart, I believe the paralyzed young boy experienced the heaven the day his poor family received a huge beautiful box full of gifts from Canada. Visiting the “underprivileged families” page at Ibajay.com, Ms. Carmen Briones was moved and kindly donated many valuable gifts to Mrs. Tejada and family of Colong-Colong, Ibajay.

The boy is no longer among us, but the generosity and kindness of people like Ms. Carmen Briones will live forever.

Here I am again. I went to the induction of municipal officers and in one of the pictures you have identified as the family of Nelson Santamaria right next to the picture Larry Briones in the first row of pictures. It is wrong, I enlarged the pictures and in fact it is the family of Roberto Garcia, the mayor. No need to publish this. Please correct it as people can get confused.
Mr. Den Sabilano, Ibajay.com appreciate your positive contribution to the site. The corrections have been made. Thank you.

I came to the awareness of Ibajay.com when the Ibajaynon USA has to issue an apology to your website. Indeed your depiction of Ibajay is one excellent job that one could be tempted to emulate your work. Thank you very much for your depiction of Ibajay as one town producing intellectual people showing only excellent work. My apologies but I was scanning through the tribute to teachers and I noticed you depiction of Nay Clemen, she is my neighbor and she has three kids instead of just 2. You missed Rosinne, the eldest. And the name of the next teacher to Nay Blanding is also wrong. It should have been the next one, you know the name depicted right below the picture. Saeamat nga abu. Den Sabilano
Mr. Den Sabilano, Ibajay.com appreciate your positive contribution to the site, and we encourage our visitors to follow your example to further enrich this medium.

Hi, I am impressed with your website.  We are all very proud of our hometown.  I saw your streamer when I visited last weekend at the Ati-atihan festival. There is a question I would like to ask about the Ibajay Ati-atihan.My dad contends that the Ati-atihan festival originated from Ibajay, not Kalibo.  Is this true?  I am very interested to know if you could help me find someone who would shed some light into this. Thanks.
